Rumor has it that the gimlet was invented when British soldiers, looking to spice up the lime juice they drank to prevent scurvy, added a ration of gin. Those Brits were crafty ones. The G&T was invented to make tonic water more palatable. Apparently British nanny, Mary Poppins was wrong. It’s not a spoonful of sugar that makes the medicine go down. It’s an ounce or two of gin.
