Recommended Read: The Last Garden in England by Julia Kelly

Wow! Is it the end of March already?  Happy Easter and/or Passover to my friends who celebrate.

I wanted to share with you a recommended read.  The Last Garden in England by Julia Kelly.

The Last Garden in England tells the story of five women during three different time zones: Venetia, the garden’s designer in 1908, Beth, Diana and Stella during World War II and gardener restoration expert Emma in 2021. As the book alternates between points of view, you quickly realize that each woman will have her life permanently changed by the gardens of Highland Hill Manor. The mystery becomes how.

This is a wonderful historical fiction novel.  Kelly manages to create five very distinct characters and interweaves the storylines beautifully.  There’s just enough of a mystery to keep you wondering what happens next.  I’ll confess the present-day storyline didn’t grab me as much as the other two, but I was still compelled to finish the book.

All in all, I would give this book an A-.  The fact that it continues to sell out at my local Barnes& Noble is a sign that others enjoyed the book as well.BTW, just a quick shout out to let you know that my recommended read from earlier this month, Lost in Paris, by Elizabeth Thompson will be hitting bookshelves in a couple weeks.  I’ve been totally spoiled by getting to read these stories early
