There’s a jar on my windowsill that I call the gratitude jar. I stole the idea from Facebook. (If you can call lifting an idea posted on Facebook as stealing.) Anyway, throughout the year, I’ve stuffed little notes in the jar reminding me of the many blessings in my life. Some are simple like “I’m grateful for coffee and chocolate”, others are far more poignant, such as “I’m grateful to have caring friends who worry about my health and happiness.” My plan is to spend some time New Year’s Eve reading these notes so I can remember the good parts of 2013.
Looking at the jar today, the day before Thanksgiving, I am stunned by the number of notes I’ve managed to stuff in there this year. To see such fullness reminds me that I have been given many blessings and advantages in this lifetime. I hope to never forget how fortunate I’ve been by sharing both my time and good fortune with others.
More than anything, I am grateful for my family and friends, for having a career I love, and for all the readers, reviewers and colleagues who’ve helped me along the way. I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving. May you have a safe, happy holiday season.
