GOODBYE 2020/HELLO 2021
I cut ties with a lot of things during 2020. RWA, my local writing chapter, my publisher and my agent are all in my rearview mirror. As a result, I find myself approaching 2021 like a bird with brand new wings.
Needless to say, I’m nervous as hell. It’s one thing to talk about cutting your safety nets and quite another to actually whip out the scissors and do it. Safety nets are incredibly reassuring. They allow you to take a chance without fear of crashing to the ground.
But they can also keep you hold you back. Say, for example, you’re standing on the edge of a cliff. There, on the other side of the canyon, is an inviting-looking land you’ve always wanted to visit. One day you work up the courage to cross the suspension bridge and so, you tie a rope around your waist and venture forth. You get to the other side, but you can only explore so far because the rope around your waist will only allow you to go so far. What’s more, your visit has a time limit. Before you can even decide which side has the greener grass, someone tugs on the rope, reminding you that there are tasks waiting for your return.
For the past decade, I’ve had a wonderful time writing series romance novels. To write for Harlequin was a dream come true – and a hard-fought dream too. I can honestly say I’m a better writer for the experience.
The time has come, however, to try something new. For a long time, I’ve dreamed of writing something bigger and more complex. Those of you who read my romances might have noticed the characters and conflicts getting a little darker. That was my desire for complexity leaking through.
Therefore, my February release, Reunited with Her Blue-Eyed Billionaire, will be my last Harlequin Romance for the foreseeable future. Having said no to another contract, I’m back to where I was ten years ago (albeit a bit wiser), banging on doors and hoping someone will take a chance on my work.
I have zero idea where 2021 is going to take me. Hopefully somewhere exciting and Covid-free. (God, wouldn’t we all love that?) Keep an eye on this blog, as well as my Facebook and Instagram pages. I’ll keep you posted as to my progress.
Oh, and for fans of Sadie McIntyre, don’t worry. My hope is to get Book 3 out in early 2022, if not sooner. (Fingers crossed!)
In the meantime, I want to send my friends and readers a HUGE Thank You for all your support. My wish for everyone is a safe, HEALTHY, happy, prosperous 2021. May all the hard times going on in the world – the economic strife, the family health crises, the tragedies – disappear and may we all be granted twelve months of joy.
Happy New Year to all.
