Holy Crap! I’ve got 40 days left of being 49 years old. Strangely enough, I don’t feel all that stressed about turning 50. In fact, I’m actually excited. This birthday is an occasion to celebrate: I feel like I’m on the cuff of a whole new adventure!
Captain Pete and I booked our trip to England. Ten whole days in the UK. I think this might be the longest vacation we’ve ever taken in our married lives. Even our honeymoon was only five days. Slowly but surely, I’m plugging away on the itinerary. Thus far, we’re staying two days in the Cotswolds and two days in Yorkshire County. The rest of the trip we’ll use for day tripping.
Of course, one of those day trips will be Cafe au lait in Paris. Every time I think about seeing the Eiffel Tower, I get a little bouncy. In my mind, all of France has streaming accordion music to accompany you while you walk the cobblestones. I better get to work on building a playlist so I can create my own.
Meanwhile, in keeping with my new experiences motto, I’ve managed to convince some friends of mine to visit an ice bar in Boston. Those of you who don’t know what an ice bar is – it’s a bar made entirely of ice. Walls, floors, furniture, even the glasses. The room is 21 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ll post pictures next week.
Finally – and this is the only part of my blog post you probably will care about – I’ve decided to mark turning 50, I’m going to throw a Facebook party for readers. One of the things I’ve learned in yoga is that yogis believe birthdays are an occasion to give gifts to others. I love this idea. After all, I wouldn’t be where I am at this point in time without the support of others.
So Monday, July 14th, I’ll be hosting the Barbara Wallace Birthday Bash on Facebook. We’ll bring cyber dates, wear sparkly cyber clothes and toast my half a century. Oh yeah, and a lot of my author friends will be stopping by to give away books. The idea is to spend a few hours having fun. Everyone is invited.
